The Japanese Hope Laboratory on the International Space Station has been experiencing recent lighting failures. If the situation continues to deteriorate, it will affect the astronauts' cabin operations.
According to the Japanese "Daily News" reported on the 14th, the in-cabin storage room and the pressurized experimental cabin section of Hope are installed on the International Space Station in March and June of this year.
Shortly afterwards, the failure of the fluorescent lamp tube occurred one after another. By September 12, only one of the four tubes in the storage room could be illuminated, and six of the 17 tubes in the pressurized test chamber were struck.
In addition to the Hope, the other experimental cabin fluorescent lamps on the International Space Station are also in constant failure. The spare lamps have been used. NASA plans to have the space shuttle send a batch of fluorescent lamps to the space station in November this year.
At present, astronauts mainly carry out fluid mechanics experiments in the hope number, and the failure of fluorescent lamps has not affected the experiment. The Japan Aerospace Research and Development Agency said that if the number of fluorescent lamps that can be normally illuminated is less than half, it will affect the operations and experiments in the Hope.
Fluorescent lamps in the International Space Station were produced in the United States in 1997. Experts from the Hope Operations team believe that fluorescent lamps have been in production for a long time, and may be caused by a decrease in the vacuum of the long-term storage of the lamps. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency is organizing the development of Led Lighting equipment that does not present similar problems.
