LED industry will adjust the industry as a whole is in disorder

In the future, only one-third of the chip companies will remain. 90% of the packaging companies are facing difficulties and the homogeneity of LED lighting applications is serious. "At the first Foshan Semiconductor Lighting Industry Exchange Conference held yesterday, Zhang Wansheng, a researcher at the 13th Institute of China Electronics Technology Group, pointed out the reality of China's LED industry.

LED industry will adjust the exchange meeting, many companies and experts expressed concern about the current status of the LED industry. Zhang Wansheng pointed out that the overall LED industry is in a disorderly state. LED epitaxial chips currently have 85 companies, including projects under construction. From January to July 2011, the number of production increased by more than 200 units. It is expected that in 2012, the production capacity of China's LED chips will reach 10 times that of 2010. Overcapacity has now begun to appear and prices have dropped significantly. LED chips have an average price reduction of 25%, with a maximum drop of 42%. Zhang Wansheng believes that only one-third of the chip companies in the country will survive in the future.

In addition, the midstream packaging industry is still facing difficulties after experiencing the closure tide since the beginning of the year. The main performance is that the gross profit rate has dropped sharply. 90% of the packaging companies are facing difficulties and the production capacity is relatively surplus. The average price is reduced by 21%, and the biggest drop is 25%. It is understood that 80% of Foshan's traditional lighting companies have been involved in LED, a total of more than 300 companies, of which there are 4 upstream chip companies, the middle reaches of the package more than 20, and the rest are all downstream applications. The downstream lighting application competition is also unprecedentedly fierce, and the gross profit rate has dropped significantly. Wu Yulin, chairman of the Foshan Lighting Association, told reporters that the current problem is serious product homogeneity, a large number of poor LED lighting sources and lamps flooding the market, how to differentiate development, is the key to Foshan enterprises access to win.

Zhang Wansheng said that the possibility of future adjustment of downstream applications may not be as large as the previous one. Just like the catering industry, there will be large restaurants, there will be food stalls, and applications will be diversified. Not only in street lamps and indoor lighting, but also in military and chemical companies. There are uses, but companies need to focus on design. In addition, the sales channel is also the most troublesome thing for small and medium-sized enterprises. “Actively looking for cooperation with traditional lamps or home appliances companies to expand channels is a path that can be explored.” Wu Yulin said.

LED standards urgently need to standardize the standard issue is the biggest obstacle to the development of the LED industry. However, Zhang Wansheng believes that LED countries and industry standards can not be eager to achieve. “The formulation of standards was originally done by the industrial sector, but the science and technology departments must also rush to standardize, and some non-governmental organizations are formulating standards in the name of engaging in standards, which will make the formulation of China’s LED standards into a more chaotic state.”

However, he believes that before the national standards are immature, industry associations can conduct demonstrations, exchanges, discussions on LED product standards of some large enterprises, and set benchmarks so that other manufacturers can learn from them when formulating product standards, thereby laying the foundation for the formulation of industry and national standards. basis.

According to Guan Shijing, Director of Marketing at OSRAM China, from the perspective of foreign experience, at the beginning of 2010, the Zhaga Alliance, a cooperation organization established by lighting giants such as Osram, Philips, Panasonic, and Toshiba, defined various optical engine interface standards. At present, standardization has basically taken shape and products will be launched in the Chinese market. As a result, manufacturers will be more likely to purchase LED lighting components, and the threshold for entry into the industry will be reduced.

Lan Jijun, the manager of the electronic LED division of Lanjian, believes that the introduction of this standardized product will have a certain guiding effect on other business operations, but it does not have legal restrictions, and standards still need to be introduced by the state.

According to Prof. Su Yu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the State Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is stepping up efforts to discuss and formulate LED national standards.
