Analyst: Sales of Xbox 360 doubled to Wii in September

Analyst: Sales of Xbox 360 doubled to Wii in September International News: Michael Pachter, an analyst at brokerage Wedbush, wrote in a research note to clients that for September, it was another month for Microsoft.

Pachter predicts that last month Microsoft sold 360,000 Xbox 360s, easily exceeding all hardware competing products. PS3 ranked second with sales of 260,000 units; Nintendo Wii sold 190,000 units.

Pachter said he believes Nintendo sold 225,000 3DS laptops and 185,000 DS consoles in September.

If the above data are accurate, it will be a good month for Microsoft to play in the game console. Last month, Microsoft said that its game console sales have won in August. In the past 15 months, Microsoft’s sales of hardware in the US have surpassed other companies for 14 months.

The decline in sales of Nintendo consoles is worth noting. For years, Nintendo's Wii consoles have consistently topped the list, far exceeding sales of other consoles. However, recent signs indicate that the attractiveness of the Wii market has started to weaken, at least in the United States, and the Xbox 360 is only holding the throat of the market.

Nintendo also seems to be aware of the seriousness of this issue and no longer publishes a new product for several years like its competitors. Nintendo plans to introduce new hardware Wii U next year to support high-quality images and high-definition technology. The console will also be equipped with a controller, which is said to use a 6.2-inch Touch screen to enhance the gaming experience.

Before releasing new hardware, Nintendo hoped its 3DS portable game console could improve its revenue, but the actual situation was far from satisfactory. In the second quarter, it sold only 110,000 units in the United States. In August this year, Nintendo lowered the price of the 3DS game console from US$249.99 to US$169.99. Sales volume increased, but it was still less than DS sales.

Software sales Pachter expects sales of Xbox 360 software to be US$306 million last month, PS3 software sales of US$165 million, and Nintendo Wii software sales of less than US$85 million.

Pachter expects sales of 3DS console software to be US$15 million in September and DS console software sales of US$56 million.

Market research firm NPD will release game sales data on Thursday.
