LGD pushes energy-saving high brightness unilateral LED LCD panel

SEOUL, South Korea (Reuters) - TFT-LCD technology leader LG Display (LGD) announced on October 9 that it has successfully developed a 47-inch Full HD LCD panel. Its vertical single-edge LED backlight technology can provide maximum brightness while consuming less power than other 40-inch LCD TV panels and 20-inch or higher computer monitors.

By significantly reducing the number of LED lamps used to maintain a high brightness level, this new LCD panel technology achieves the world's lowest energy consumption rate for large-size LCD panels. In order to reduce the amount of LED light, LGD uses its own backlight technology to vertically attach the LED light to the unilateral side of the panel. This technology is used for the first time in the world.

Despite its large size, the 47-inch LCD panel consumes as little as 28W, which is less than the 30-50W power consumption of most computer monitors over 20 inches. At the same time, the panel can provide 400nit brightness enough to meet the standards of high-definition television (HDTV) through a three-film structure that can focus and diffuse optical fibers, local dimming technology, and high-efficiency LED lamps.

In addition, the panel can provide excellent picture quality performance, full HD output resolution, and 8.5mm ultra-thin panel to meet the needs of commercial applications, and its high energy efficiency can further reduce the user's cost of use.

Shin Ho Kang, vice president of LGD LED Division, said: “LGD and our business partners have jointly developed this LCD technology, which is in keeping with our promise to provide users with energy-efficient, environment-friendly products. We will continue to invest in more efficient technologies. To create higher market and environmental value."
