1) First, you need to create a detailed program listing based on the design patterns and processing requirements of the desired part. This program is written in a specific code and format and then recorded onto a program carrier, such as a USB drive or magnetic tape.

2) Next, the program stored on the carrier is transferred into the CNC unit via an input device like a keyboard or card reader. This step ensures the machine understands the instructions needed to complete the task.

3) Once the CNC unit receives the program, it processes the data and generates signals that are sent to the servo systems of each axis of the machine tool. These signals guide the movement of the tool and the workpiece.

4) The servo system then interprets these signals and moves the machine's components accordingly, while also controlling any necessary auxiliary operations, such as spindle speed adjustments or coolant flow.

5) Through the mechanical parts of the lathe, the tool and the workpiece move relative to one another, cutting and shaping the raw material into the desired part.

6) Throughout this process, a feedback system continuously monitors the machine's movements and relays this information back to the CNC unit. This helps to minimize machining errors and ensure precision. However, some older open-loop CNC machines lack this feedback mechanism, which can result in slightly less accurate results.
