High-end LED technology is expected to be industrialized in Shaanxi Recently, China's first independently-innovated vertical structure ultra-high brightness LED technology industrialization project, trial production in Shaanxi New Light Source Technology Co., Ltd., and lit up the country's first independent innovation of vertical structure LED lights. The smooth implementation of this project is a fruit of the province's vigorous efforts to promote the integration of production, learning and research, and the implementation of the "Thousand People Plan" to optimize the industrial development environment. The vertical structure ultra high brightness LED technology industrialization project is a scientific and technological achievement conversion project of the Solid State Lighting Engineering Research Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University, which mainly produces high-power LED chips for functional lighting. The technique uses a substrate stripping process to transfer a non-thermally conductive epitaxially grown substrate to a metal substrate with excellent thermal conductivity, and then peels off the epitaxially grown device film from the growth substrate, so that the heat dissipation problem of the LED device is transferred to the prior art. The chip segment completely solves the problems of low power, inconsistency, high cost, and low reliability due to poor heat dissipation of the chip, the package assembly, and the light source. The use of this technology to produce high current density, ultra-high power, large-size LED chip, to achieve a unit of area chip light several times or even a few times increase, greatly reducing the LED lighting source production and use costs, improve the reliability of the device Sexuality has truly brought into play the advantages of high efficiency, high brightness and high reliability of high-end semiconductor lighting chips.

The project is led by Dr. Yunfeng, a scholar of the "Thousand People Project" of Xi'an Jiaotong University. According to him, the semiconductor lighting industry has a broad market prospect. If one-third of the domestic lighting is replaced with LED semiconductor lighting, 300 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity can be saved each year, which is equivalent to a Three Gorges project. The project's international market is very broad, with a domestic market size of 450 billion yuan per year. However, due to its high technical barriers, ultra-high brightness semiconductor lighting chips are currently only a handful of industry giants in the world have realized industrialization. The successful industrialization of this project in our province means that China's semiconductor lighting industry has entered the high-end LED epitaxial wafers and chip manufacturing field in the upper reaches of the industrial chain, which is of great significance in improving the strategic position and international status of the semiconductor lighting industry in our province.

In the industrialization process of the project, the provincial party committee and the provincial government attached great importance to it and provided full support from project approval to financing. From August 2011, the project investment agreement was signed in Xi’an and in December of the same year, the project's industrialization company, Shaanxi New Light Source Technology Co., Ltd. was formally established, and in June this year, it lit the first domestically-innovated vertical structure LED lamp. This project took only a little less than two years to complete the scale from "on paper" to basically having an industrial scale.

It is expected that the project will complete trial production in the near future and gradually achieve mass production. The annual production capacity of 130,000 epitaxial wafers and 180 million ultra-high-power vertical-structured LED chips will reach a sales revenue of over 200 million yuan.
