PTC has recently announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft to bring the ThingWorx® industrial innovation platform to the Microsoft Azure cloud. This collaboration aims to leverage Microsoft’s advanced cloud capabilities and combine them with PTC’s IoT expertise, creating new opportunities in the industrial and manufacturing sectors. By integrating their strengths, both companies are working together to deliver powerful solutions for industrial IoT and digital product lifecycle management.
At the core of this partnership is the integration of Microsoft Azure IoT with the ThingWorx platform. This combination allows customers to transform their products and operations through IoT connectivity, real-world applications, business system integration, and innovative user experiences enabled by mixed reality. Additionally, PTC’s comprehensive solution portfolio—such as Creo® and Windchill® for design, manufacturing, and service—alongside Microsoft HoloLens headsets, will enhance the breadth and depth of available services.
In addition to selecting Microsoft Azure as its preferred cloud platform, PTC will also offer a hosted version of ThingWorx on Azure. This will allow customers to benefit from Azure’s fast, secure, scalable, and globally accessible infrastructure. The collaboration between ThingWorx and Azure IoT enables customers to implement “production-ready†solutions more quickly, reduce product development cycles, improve time-to-market, and access large volumes of engineering data with greater flexibility.
PTC and Microsoft are focusing on shared customer opportunities across various industries, including discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, hybrid manufacturing, oil and gas, and utilities. One of their key partners is Colfax, a global leader in industrial technology that provides gas and fluid handling solutions and manufacturing technologies. Colfax is currently implementing an enterprise-wide industrial IoT project using PTC’s ThingWorx and Microsoft Azure. Ryan Cahalane, Vice President of Digital Development at Colfax, commented: “The collaboration between two industry leaders is very significant. With ThingWorx and Azure, Colfax can seize the opportunities brought by the Internet of Things and grow rapidly.â€
Jim Heppelmann, President and CEO of PTC, stated, “This partnership brings together Microsoft’s strength in intelligent cloud services with PTC’s leadership in IoT, product design, manufacturing, and services. In the journey of digital transformation, such a strong alliance creates real value for our customers.â€
Jason Zander, Vice President of Microsoft Azure Enterprise, added, “We are honored that Azure has become PTC’s preferred cloud platform to help customers accelerate their digital transformation in the IoT space, especially in manufacturing. The combination of PTC’s platform with Azure’s speed, scalability, and intelligence will empower customers to drive industrial innovation faster.â€
