PTC recently announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft to bring the ThingWorx® industrial innovation platform to the Microsoft Azure cloud. This collaboration aims to leverage the strengths of both companies, combining Microsoft's robust cloud infrastructure with PTC's deep expertise in IoT and product lifecycle management. Together, they are creating powerful solutions tailored for the industrial and manufacturing sectors, helping businesses unlock new opportunities through digital transformation.
By integrating Microsoft Azure IoT with the ThingWorx platform, customers can now access advanced IoT connectivity, rich application scenarios, and seamless integration with business systems. The solution also incorporates mixed reality technologies, offering users an immersive experience that enhances productivity and decision-making. In addition, PTC’s suite of tools—including Creo® for design, Windchill® for product lifecycle management, and Microsoft HoloLens for augmented reality—will further enhance the value proposition for enterprises looking to modernize their operations.
PTC has chosen Microsoft Azure as its preferred cloud platform for manufacturing customers, and will offer a dedicated ThingWorx hosting service on Azure. This allows customers to benefit from Azure’s global reach, security, scalability, and speed. The integration enables faster deployment of “production-ready†solutions, reduces time-to-market, and provides greater flexibility in managing engineering data.
This partnership is expected to have a strong impact across multiple industries, including discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, and energy. One of the first major adopters of this combined solution is Colfax, a global leader in industrial technology. Colfax is implementing a company-wide IoT initiative using ThingWorx and Azure. Ryan Cahalane, Vice President of Digital Development at Colfax, commented, “This collaboration between two industry leaders is incredibly valuable. With ThingWorx and Azure, we’re able to harness the power of IoT to drive growth and scale our operations efficiently.â€
Jim Heppelmann, President and CEO of PTC, emphasized the importance of the alliance: “This partnership brings together Microsoft’s leadership in cloud services with PTC’s strength in IoT, product design, and manufacturing. In today’s digital age, such a collaboration is essential for delivering real value to our customers.â€
Jason Zander, Vice President of Microsoft Azure Enterprise, added, “We are proud to be PTC’s preferred cloud partner. By combining Azure’s speed, scalability, and intelligence with PTC’s platform, we are helping customers accelerate their industrial innovation and digital transformation.â€
