Teamed up with China Mobile, Samsung completed 5G prototype technology test

On November 9, Samsung Electronics announced that it has completed the 5G prototype technology test with China Mobile Research Institute.

This test tested and verified the key technologies of the low-band 3.5GHz, including spatial modulation and new multi-carrier technology. Specific test indicators include error performance, throughput and out-of-band leakage. The joint test also includes Samsung high-frequency 5G prototype system and terminal, supporting advanced beamforming. This test is designed to fully verify the performance of millimeter wave technology, including mobility, peak throughput, multi-user scheduling capabilities, and the propagation and penetration characteristics of high-band wireless signals indoors.

In addition to the 5G field, Samsung will also conduct research in the next generation of communication technologies including Internet of Things, Internet of Vehicles, Industrial Internet, and intelligent robots, AR/VR.

"For many years, Samsung has accumulated a lot of technology and experience in 5G technology and product development; in the future, Samsung will continue to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese government and Chinese operators to jointly promote the standardization and commercialization of related technology industries." China Samsung Zhang Dejun, dean of the institute, said.

Since 2000, Samsung has continued to actively invest and develop in the 5G field. Since 2014, Samsung has been committed to the commercialization of 5G technology and industry, and has achieved milestone breakthroughs in the research and development of multiple 5G technologies, including multi-cell switching demonstration based on millimeter wave, and developed a channel model of millimeter wave to improve 5G network planning efficiency, dedicated to the development of radio frequency technology necessary for miniaturization of base stations and terminal products, and completed 3.5GHz-based FD-MIMO demonstration in 2015. As one of the key players in the 3GPP standardization organization, Samsung will actively promote the global unified 5G standard and expect to complete the first version of the standard in 2018.
