The robot can be guided by ultrasound or CT imaging to attract blood clots at target points in the brain. Its needles, like telescopes, can extend and bend navigation. The system was originally designed to "enable" brain tumors, but the research team later realized that it could also be used to effectively deal with blood clots.
The system is still in the prototype stage, and researchers have been using gelatin models to test against fake blood clots. Ultimately, the researchers hope that the device will reach the surgeon's hands and reduce the mortality caused by cerebral hemorrhage.
