USB 3.1 performance test: it can not be more cool!

A year and a half after the USB 3.1 standard was released, the product finally began to appear. TechReport also got a new ASUS product, and made a simple test.

This is a USB 3.1 test sample developed jointly by Asustek and Ulead, equipped with a USB 3.1 Type-C interface and a micro-USB interface for data transmission and power supply respectively, but on the retail product, a USB 3.1 is available. It should be possible to get data and power at the same time.

Internally, two Samsung 840 EVO 250GBm SATA solid-state drives form a RAID 0, which is conducive to achieving the highest performance and breaking the SATA 6Gbps limit. Of course, a better solution is to use PCI-E M.2.

Motherboard is ASUS Z97-A/USB 3.1, provides two USB 3.1 Type-A interfaces, can be backward compatible with USB 3.0/2.x, but can not just plug the front and back, there will be no 100W power supply capacity, the highest 10W.
The host of USB 3.1 is the ASM1142, with two PCI-E 2.0 bus channels, and one PCI-E 3.0, with a total bandwidth of 10Gbps.
The highest theoretical speed of USB 3.1 is 10Gbps, but there are two interfaces here, so it is shared, and because of the limitations of PCI-E 2.0, the actual maximum available bandwidth is only 1GB/s.
Due to time constraints, and ASUS does not support TRIM and Secure Erase, only the CrystalDiskMark was tested, and the USB 3.1 Turbo Acceleration Mode (UAS protocol) was enabled.

Continuous read and write speeds can be as much as 75-78% higher than USB 3.0, from less than 450MB/s to approaching 800MB/s.

The 4K random write speed soared almost twice, approaching 80MB/s, but the random reads were generally just about 37% higher.

At present, USB 3.1 motherboards, data lines, etc. have been sold, such as the test of this Z97-A/USB 3.1, the United States new egg on the asking price of 159.99 US dollars, there Z97-PRO (Wi-Fi ac) / USB 3.1, Z97-Deluxe/USB 3.1, but unfortunately, there is no USB 3.1 U disk, hard disk or something.

The following is a list of known USB 3.1 devices:
