2016 OSRAM builds three strategic pillars to launch a 500 million euro stock repurchase program

At the OSRAM Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Munich, OSRAM CEO Olaf Berlien revealed the company's innovation and development initiatives in the lighting business. Olaf Berlien said in Munich on Tuesday: “Everyone is talking about digital, and we are making investments. Only those who have the courage and speed to take the lead in the ever-changing lighting industry can succeed.” Under this initiative Osram will focus on sustainable development and plans to increase the profitability of semiconductor lighting technology products.

Another important development strategy of OSRAM has been the spin-off of the general lighting business. Olaf Berlien announced the spin-off schedule earlier: "The business spin-off plan is scheduled for April 1, and the legal spin-off plan is scheduled for July 1."

After the spin-off of the luminaire business, OSRAM's business strategy will shift to focus on three pillars: Special Lighting (SP), lighting solutions and systems (Luminaires & Solutions, LS) and LED components (Opto Semiconductors, OS). Olaf Berlien said: "Oslan's three strategic pillars will be able to better position itself as a technology company to lay a solid foundation."

Osram’s Chief Financial Officer Klaus Patzak said at the annual general meeting: “Osram has strong economic strength to enable the company’s shareholders to profit from it. At the same time, the company will maintain its ability to invest in future industries.”

At the end of the 2015 fiscal year, OSRAM still has more than 500,000 shareholders. As of September 30, institutional investors held approximately 68% of the shares, and retail investors held 14% of the company's shares. At Tuesday's annual general meeting, it was reported that OSRAM's financial position was stable and a dividend of 0.90 Euro/share was proposed. At the same time, the company also launched a stock repurchase program of up to 500 million euros.

Applications:

The use of a K-rated transformer is anywhere non-linear loads are present. Prime uses would be in factory automation, computer rooms, and office buildings because of the high harmonic content in these areas, Typically a K-13 rated transformer is sufficient for most applications.  UL recognizes K-factor values of 4, 9, 13, 20, 30, 40 and 50. The K-factor number tells us how much a transformer must be de-rated to handle a definite non-linear load or, conversely, how much it must be oversized to handle the same load.

How to choose your K factor transformer?

K1: standard transformers, standard lighting, motors.

K4: Induction heater, SCR, AC drive

K13: School pulse lighting, hospital

K20: Data processing computer, computer room.
