The 5G era is rapidly approaching, and Wanzhongyu is at the forefront of this technological revolution. With its high speed, massive capacity, and ultra-low latency, 5G is set to transform industries like the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart homes. China is actively leveraging this opportunity to shape its future in the global tech landscape, turning 5G into a key factor in national competitiveness.
Recently, the 5th China Mobile Partner Conference took place in Guangzhou, where industry leaders shared insights on the accelerating pace of 5G commercialization. With strong government support and expanding international operations, China's 5G infrastructure is already leading globally. Experts predict that China will soon emerge as a global 5G leader, with several domestic companies now competing on the world stage in R&D.

At the 2017 China Mobile Global Partner Conference, groundbreaking 5G R&D achievements were unveiled. China Mobile demonstrated the world’s first "5G new air interface end-to-end interworking" based on global standards. This system operates on the 3.5GHz band with a 100MHz bandwidth, achieving downlink speeds of over 1.3Gbps. They also showcased real-time live streaming of 16 4K HD videos using a 5G pre-commercial base station and a compact 5G CPE. Additionally, they introduced the first domestic 5G high-frequency base station amplifiers and RF front-end devices, marking significant progress in the industry.
At Qualcomm’s booth, reporters witnessed the world’s first 5G chip capable of handling true high-capacity data connections. According to Chen Bo, a Qualcomm researcher, this is just the beginning. In the future, 5G will support more than a dozen frequency bands. Currently, Qualcomm is testing data connections in the 28GHz millimeter wave band, with plans to expand to other bands worldwide. This means the chip will eventually support all global 5G frequencies, enabling seamless global connectivity. Qualcomm aims to further optimize the chip for commercial use, with 5G smartphones expected to launch by mid-2019.
Meanwhile, Chinese equipment manufacturers are making impressive strides, helping to establish China’s voice in the 5G era. In June, ZTE and China Mobile launched the first 5G pre-commercial base station in Guangzhou. The event featured a range of 5G applications, including the world’s first 5G IoDT test, 5G experience car, 5G drone, 5G wireless broadband access, 5G submarine, and 5G VR cloud gaming. These demonstrations highlighted the vast potential of 5G across various sectors.
“4G changes life, 5G changes society,†said Ding Haijun, director of the Institute of Wireless and Terminal Technology at China Mobile Research Institute. He emphasized that 5G is not just a communication technology but a gateway to a new era of the Internet of Everything, where it will be closely integrated with artificial intelligence and big data. As 5G continues to evolve, it promises to reshape how we live, work, and interact in the digital age.
