Previously available from 50V to 500V, the new series now includes a 25V option, offering engineers more flexibility in design. These capacitors meet the standard MIL-PRF-49470 B-rated reliability, while those intended for space applications are undergoing T-level reliability testing.
The expansion of the SMPS series addresses a growing need for lower-voltage capacitors that still deliver proven performance in demanding environments. As Dan Shields, North American product manager at AVX, explained, “Currently, AVX is the only supplier listed on the MIL-PRF-49470 QPL at 25V. This expansion provides engineers with a reliable solution that meets urgent market demands.â€
Designed for high-current, high-power, and high-temperature applications, these capacitors feature ultra-low ESR and ESL, operating reliably between -55°C and +125°C. They are ideal for input/output filters in high-voltage power supplies, bus filters, and DC dampers in high-power inverters, as well as DC/DC converters, conventional and switched power supplies, aerospace systems, and military equipment.
The SMPS series comes in six package sizes, with various via and surface mount lead options. These designs help reduce mechanical stress caused by board bending, vibration, and temperature cycling. The lead frame is soldered using high-temperature methods, eliminating reflow soldering risks during assembly. Capacitors are available in both unpackaged (MIL-PRF-49470/1) and packaged (MIL-PRF-49470/2) versions, giving engineers enhanced reliability and durability choices.
The capacitance ranges for the series are: 25V (1.5–390μF), 50V (1–270μF), 100V (0.68–180μF), 200V (0.47–120μF), and 500V (0.15–39μF). Due to the wide variety of options, pricing is based on individual requests, and the typical delivery time is 11 to 14 weeks.
