AVX Releases 25V Rated and Expanded Capacitance Range for MIL-PRF-49470 Switching Power Supply Capacitor Series

AVX, a leading manufacturer of high-end passive components and connectors, has recently expanded its voltage range for the MIL-PRF-49470-compliant switching power supply (SMPS) stacked multilayer ceramic capacitors. Previously available from 50V to 500V, the new series now includes a 25V option. These capacitors are designed with standard B-rated reliability under MIL-PRF-49470, while T-level reliability versions for space applications are currently undergoing testing. The expansion of the SMPS series is particularly valuable for engineers who need reliable, lower-voltage capacitors in demanding environments. "AVX's 25V MIL-PRF-49470 QPL is the only listed supplier at this voltage level," said Dan Shields, North American product manager at AVX. "This new offering provides a proven solution that meets the urgent need for high-reliability components in critical applications." These capacitors are ideal for high-current, high-power, and high-temperature environments. They feature ultra-low ESR and ESL, and can operate between -55°C and +125°C. The SMPS series is widely used in input/output filters for high-power and high-voltage power supplies, as well as for bus filtering and DC damping in high-power inverters. It also supports DC/DC converters, conventional and switched power supplies, aerospace systems, and military-grade applications. Available in six package sizes, the SMPS series offers various via and surface mount lead configurations. This design helps reduce mechanical stress caused by board bending, vibration, and temperature cycling. The lead frame is attached using high-temperature soldering, eliminating the risk of reflow issues during assembly. The series is available in both unpackaged (MIL-PRF-49470/1) and packaged (MIL-PRF-49470/2) formats, giving engineers more flexibility in choosing reliability and durability options. The capacitance range for the SMPS series includes: 25V (1.5–390μF), 50V (1–270μF), 100V (0.68–180μF), 200V (0.47–120μF), and 500V (0.15–39μF). Due to the wide variety of options, pricing is based on individual requests, and the typical delivery time is 11 to 14 weeks.
