Motor control application designers are currently switching from traditional general-purpose or AC motor designs to more mature brushless DC (BLDC) motors or permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) designs. Parallel processor in single-chip design

FCM8531 is a three-phase hybrid BLDC / PMSM controller with two parallel processors-an advanced motor controller (AMC) and an embedded microcontroller (MCU). This product provides a complete single-chip solution for complex motor control applications. The two core processors work independently, but cooperate to exchange data through internal communication interfaces that help avoid system hangs and enhance hardware protection. FCM8531 minimizes software burden through its integrated hardware controller and MCU interface management function, and realizes more efficient and fast load response motor system.

Customized design for simplified functions

AMC can be applied to various motor designs, using Fairchild Semiconductor Library that can be configured and stored to execute powerful algorithms such as sine wave control, field-oriented control (FOC) and direct quadrature (DQ) control} to provide high-performance motors control function. The MCU interface paired with AMC allows users to easily change the value of the register to meet the requirements of different motor operation processes and characteristics. This device is ideal for solving start-up jitter in speed sensorless fan applications, as well as noise and inefficiencies in various fan and pump applications. FCM8531 has multiple hardware protection functions, such as overvoltage protection and overcurrent protection. Its design considers and provides quick response to all failure modes, while the embedded MCU can easily implement additional functions.

Easy-to-use development tools

Fairchild Semiconductor's Motor Control Development System (MCDS) consists of an integrated development environment (IDE) and an MCDS programming tool that allows engineers to configure AMC and develop code for the MCU. Together with the processing core, the system provides an integrated software engineering platform, which is conducive to the rapid development of motor control programs. MCDS-IDE is easy to use and completes the design target schedule. When used with the MCDS programming tool suite, code programming can be completed quickly, allowing real-time adjustment of the motor running signal.
