ZigBee Alliance launches battery-free option with new Green Power feature
-Product manufacturers gain new options for wireless network connection energy harvesting devices
San Ramon, California, December 20, 2012-The ZigBee® Alliance, a global enterprise ecosystem that creates wireless solutions for energy management, commercial and consumer applications, announced today that the organization has developed a new Green Power Features the most environmentally friendly way to power ZigBee products. A variety of products such as switches and dimmers can now be easily powered by energy harvesting devices instead of batteries or AC power, and a maintenance-free, environmentally friendly solution was born. The alliance will host a public webinar on the theme of Green Power on January 24.
Green Power is an optional feature in the ZigBee PRO feature set. The ZigBee PRO feature set is part of the enhanced ZigBee 2012 specification that was recently approved for release to members of the alliance. Green Power has greatly expanded ZigBee PRO's capabilities, further consolidating its leadership as a global wireless sensor and control network and Internet of Things standard.
