Intelligent machine chip: Qualcomm fell sharply in the top five MediaTek

On the morning of August 8th, Strategy Analytics, a market research organization, recently published a report indicating that MediaTek had squeezed Marvell in the first quarter of this year to become the world’s fifth-largest smart phone chip maker. The top four are Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics, Texas Instruments and Broadcom. Marvell slipped out of the top five as its customers RIM sluggish and China Mobile's TD handset shipments missed expectations.

In the first quarter of this year, the size of the smart phone core chipset industry reached 2.47 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 55%. In the midst of fierce competition in the low-end smartphone market, Qualcomm, although still occupying the top spot, has lost market share, falling from 51% in the same period last year to 44%. Broadcom and MediaTek, on the other hand, rely on integrated solutions to gradually form an impetus for Qualcomm. Among them, MediaTek has benefited from the outbreak of the low-end smart phone market in China and successfully pushed into the top five.

The Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) is a high-performance protection device in the form of a diode. When the two poles of a Tvs Diode are subjected to a reverse transient high-energy shock, it can change the high impedance between the two poles to a low impedance at a speed of the order of 10 minus 12 powers, absorbing up to several kilowatts of surge power. The voltage between the two poles is clamped to a predetermined value, effectively protecting the precision components in the electronic circuit from various surge pulses.
