Smart bulbs go on and on: Lumen Bluetooth 4.0 LED bulbs are on the market

In the field of smart bulbs and color-changing LED lighting, Philips Hue is the most well-known member, but this does not stop other start-ups from enthusiasm for the industry, and Lumen is one of them. The TL800 Bluetooth 4.0 Smart Light Bulb has successfully raised enough startup funds through crowdfunding and is now on the market. Consumers can control it directly from the iPhone or a designated Android device.

The Lumen TL800, priced at $69.99, is the same size as a regular light bulb. The manufacturer claims to be able to output an equivalent brightness of 40W (400 lumens) - Philips' Hue is 600 lumens - and the service life can reach 30,000 hours. It has built-in white, red, blue and green LEDs and can provide 16 combinations.

In terms of handling, unlike Philips' Hue - Hue needs a pedestal that connects to WiFi routing and interconnects as a ZigBee mesh network - Lumen only needs to connect the phone directly to the light bulb (via Bluetooth).

Of course, the downside of this is that each TL800 bulb can only be connected to one device at the same time. A single phone can adjust up to 10 lights at the same time, but there is no shared control in the Hue app.

The TL800's Bluetooth range is 30 feet (approximately 9 meters) and can be set to automatically turn on within the range (or automatically turn off when leaving). In addition, the product has a variety of functional modes, including flashing incoming calls, music atmosphere, or simulating sunrise.
