The second quarter was warm and exciting, and in 2017, I got a few great prizes at the end of the year, including an iPad, QC30, Kindle, and Jingdong Cards. I had been thinking about getting a cute keyboard for a while. I saw the Lofei Dot Bluetooth Mechanical Keyboard in a mall before and was really interested. When I found out that Ma Shushu was running a promotion, I decided to go for it.
The package came in a courier box with a plastic seal on the outside.
The plastic cover has a charging tip built-in.
I removed the plastic seal and opened the box.
Inside, there was a small envelope containing the keyboard itself.
After opening the box, I found a layer of black foam holding the keyboard, and on the right side was an accessory box.
Inside the box, along with the keyboard, there were a USB cable, warranty card, and user manual. The connector is similar to the one on Android phones.
The keyboard has rounded corners and pink round keys. The craftsmanship is decent, made of plastic with a smooth finish. It should be fine for office typing, but not ideal for gaming.
This keyboard uses a green switch, which is good for typing in an office setting.
From close up, the size isn't standard — the key spacing is tighter, so it takes some time to get used to.
The spacebar uses a satellite axis design, making it more stable than a regular balance bar when pressed.
On the back, there are four fixed feet that provide a 6-degree tilt angle, designed to reduce wrist strain during long typing sessions.
On the side, you can see the system mode switch, allowing you to toggle between Windows/Android and Mac/iOS. There's also a Bluetooth switch, supporting connection to three devices simultaneously. Pressing FN+1, FN+2, or FN+3 lets you switch between them easily. On the far right is the USB port. It has a built-in 4000mAh battery, lasting up to two weeks.
Since I use a Mac, I switched the mode to the right and turned on the Bluetooth. The white backlight lit up.
The backlight brightness is adjustable, with three levels. The brightest setting can cause some glare, and the keyboard goes into sleep mode after being idle for a while. Touching any key will wake it up again.
The backlight effect is only visible in low light conditions.
Now, I connected it to my computer. I pressed and held FN+1 for three seconds to activate the Bluetooth pairing mode (the LED indicator starts flashing).
On my Mac, I went to System Preferences > Keyboard > Bluetooth, and the device "DOT@LOFREE" appeared automatically.
I clicked "Pair" to complete the connection.
Now I can start using it! The pink keyboard pairs well with the Amoy pink mouse. Typing sounds a bit louder, so it's better suited for quiet environments. The key depression feels distinct, which might feel a bit stiff for those not used to mechanical keyboards. However, if you like the tactile feedback of a retro typewriter, you'll enjoy it. The keyboard has a solid weight, making it less portable and better suited for desktop use.
