Geotextile Effective Pore Size Analyzer (Wet Sieve Method)

This instrument is designed for determining the effective aperture of various types of geotextile products.

Test Principle:

The sample and graded granular material are sprayed with water at a predetermined vibration frequency and amplitude using a single layer of geotextile without tension as a screen. The particle size that passes through the sample indicates the effective pore size of the material.

Instrument Structure and Working Principle:

1. Appearance (see Figure 1, outline drawing): The instrument consists of a base plate, cover, holder, screening device, and spray system.

2. Base plate has four mounting slots for secure installation on a foundation or workbench.

3. The cover includes a control panel with a counter, switch, and start button. It is isolated from the vibrating device to reduce vibration effects.

4. The spray system is mounted on the right side of the base, including a water inlet, steam switch, metal hose, shower head, and splash cover. When in use, the shower head is placed inside the transparent cover, and the splash cover is fastened with a clip to prevent water spillage.

5. The collection tank is rigidly connected to the left side of the vibrating head and collects the passing particles. The support grid is used to place the sample, which is then pressed tightly by the holder and secured with bolts.

6. The transmission system uses an eccentric wheel driven by a vibrator via a belt and gears to generate controlled vibration. All components are mounted on a flat plate supported by spring dampers to minimize vibration impact.

7. Electrical control follows the schematic diagram shown in Figure 2.

External Environment Requirements:

1. The workbench should be flat, stable, and have good anti-vibration properties.

2. The instrument should be isolated from sensitive equipment to avoid interference.

3. Temperature: 10~30°C, humidity ≤ 80%

4. Power supply: AC 380V ±10%, 50Hz

5. External water supply must be regulated with a pressure of 300KPa and flow rate of 500mL/min.

Operating Steps:

1. Remove the gripper, flatten the sample on the support grid, and press it tightly.

2. Spread the selected granular material evenly over the sample.

3. Turn on the power and set the timer according to GB/T 17634-1998 (e.g., 600 seconds).

4. Connect the external water source, place the shower head inside the transparent cover, and secure the splash cover.

5. Open the flow control valve and spray water onto the sample.

6. Press the start button to begin the test.

7. Collect the particles that pass through the sample in the collection tank.

8. Stop the instrument after the set time has elapsed.

9. Collect and analyze the untreated particles and sample.

10. Process the results according to the GB/T 17634-1998 standard.

11. After testing, turn off the power and clean the instrument thoroughly.

Precautions:

1. Ensure the workbench is isolated from other devices due to the instrument’s vibration during operation.

2. If sand is used as the test material, regular cleaning is essential.

3. After each test, clean any remaining water and debris from the instrument.

4. Lubricate moving parts such as the eccentric shaft and support springs to ensure smooth operation.
