Geotextile Effective Pore Size Analyzer (Wet Sieve Method)

Standard requirements for the instrument.
Test Principle:
The sample and graded granular material are sprayed with water at a predetermined vibration frequency and amplitude. A single layer of geotextile, without tension, acts as a screen, allowing the particulate material to pass through. The effective pore size is determined by the particle size that passes through the sample.

Instrument Structure and Working Principle:
1. The instrument consists of a base plate, cover, holder, screening device, and spray system.
2. The base plate has four mounting slots for securing it to the workbench or foundation.
3. The cover contains a control panel with a timer, switch, and start button. It is isolated from the vibrating parts to minimize vibration interference.
4. The spray system includes a water inlet, hose, shower head, and splash cover to prevent water from spilling out during testing.
5. The collection tank is connected to the vibrating head and collects particles that pass through the sample.
6. The gripper holds the sample securely on the support grid, and sealing rings ensure a tight fit to prevent leakage.
7. The transmission system uses an eccentric wheel driven by a vibrator, connected via belt and gears to generate controlled vibration.
8. The electrical control system manages power, timing, and operation of the instrument.
External Environment Requirements:
1. The workbench should be flat, stable, and vibration-free.
2. The instrument should be placed away from sensitive equipment.
3. Temperature: 10–30°C; Humidity ≤80%
4. Power supply: AC 380V ±10%, 50Hz
5. Water supply must be regulated, with pressure around 300kPa and flow rate of 500mL/min.
Operation Steps:
1. Remove the gripper and place the sample on the support grid, then secure it with the gripper.
2. Spread the standard granular material evenly over the sample.
3. Turn on the power and set the timer according to GB/T17634-1998 (e.g., 600 seconds).
4. Connect the water source and spray water onto the sample using the shower head inside the transparent cover.
5. Press the start button to begin the test.
6. After the time is up, stop the vibration and collect the particles that passed through the sample.
7. Analyze the results according to the standard.
Post-Test Maintenance:
1. Turn off the power and clean the instrument thoroughly after use.
2. Clean the sample chamber if sand was used in the test.
3. Lubricate moving parts such as the eccentric shaft and support springs.
Precautions:
1. Ensure the workbench is isolated from other equipment due to vibration.
2. Regular cleaning is essential when using sand as the test medium.
3. Always drain and clean the instrument after each test to maintain performance.
