East China Power Grid Corporation develops new energy-saving transmission lines

In the construction of transmission line projects, common ACSR cables are commonly used as overhead transmission lines in the world, and it has been more than 100 years old. How to improve the strength of the wire and increase the conductivity has always been the subject of research at home and abroad. Since 2008, East China Power Grid Co., Ltd. has begun to pay attention to and started research on this subject in light of the construction characteristics and reality of regional power grids.

In early 2010, East China Power Grid Co., Ltd. jointly developed soft aluminum conductors with East China Electric Power Design Institute and Wuxi Huaneng Cable Co., Ltd. However, the first batch of new aluminum wire was not satisfactory after trial production. The wires expose problems such as soft materials, high manufacturing costs, and complex construction processes. On the one hand, due to the use of soft aluminum in composite wires, the inherent defects in its applicability and reliability are difficult to overcome; on the other hand, although the conductivity of such aluminum strands is increased to 63%, it is expensive, making The increase in investment in project construction is larger.

After recognizing the defects of this wire, experts and technicians from East China Power Grid Co., East China Electric Power Design Institute and Wuxi Huaneng Cable Co., Ltd. continued to tackle the problem, identified more specific research and development topics, and jointly established a special project with the School of Materials of Southeast University. The R&D team consists of three groups, each of which has different components. The East China Power Grid Co., Ltd. team determined the construction of the line projects with different voltage levels within the regional power grid and the targets and requirements for the new conductors; East China Electric Power Design Institute provided different design parameters according to the blueprint for the construction of the line projects, and proposed improvement plans based on specific conditions. In order to achieve the optimal design, Wuxi Huaneng Cable Corporation will start with adjusting the formula of aluminum liquid and improving the technological level according to the requirements of the development task book and the key technologies and difficulties of the product.

During the R&D process, in order to further reduce the loss of conductivity in the aluminum wire drawing process, the tripartite engineering technicians combined with Southeast University conducted a computer simulation analysis of the stress, deformation, defect damage, etc. during the aluminum wire drawing process, and finally determined the appropriateness. The compression rate, and precise and effective control and trimming of the mold angle, to ensure that the aluminum wire in the drawing process has the least number of defect points, and the smallest impact on the conductivity. After more than a year of practical exploration and technological breakthroughs, the highly conductive ACSR has finally been successfully developed.

In August 2010, the product of this project passed the full performance test of Shanghai Cable Research Institute, and all indicators met the standard requirements and passed the CEC's new product appraisal. The appraisal shows that the highly conductive ACSR is high in conductivity and is the first in the country to reach the international advanced level.

In 2012, on the basis of this, East China Power Grid Co., Ltd. successfully launched steel core highly conductive aluminum wire strands and highly conductive steel-cored aluminum stranded wires. The two new types of wire can not only improve the transmission power of the line, reduce the loss of the line, increase the current of the wire, and reduce the operating noise, but also have better electrical and mechanical properties. In particular, the wire has excellent frost-reducing properties. .

High-conductivity steel-core aluminum stranded conductors and high-conductivity ACSR strands are used in batches in UHV transmission lines, which can effectively reduce line losses, surface field strength on the conductors, radio interference and audible noise, and reduce the operating cost of the power grid. Improve energy delivery efficiency.
